Meghan's Asian Adventure: Spring Semester 2014
As a requirement of the Lindner Honors-PLUS Program, each 3rd year student travels with their class to either Asia or Europe. My class was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Asia for 6 weeks, where we studied the cultures and business dynamics of Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, and Chiang Mai.
While I had been to Europe, and various places in the US, traveling to Asia was quite different. Not only was the flight extremely long, but interacting with people who spoke very little English, and trying to decide what to eat when the menus were in various languages posed for an interesting trip. I had prepared for the cultural changes I would experience on my trip, and I was lucky to have my friends by my side.
As a business student, I will soon be interacting with people from across the globe, whether on teams in the office or remotely. Knowing how to interact across cultures, and understanding different viewpoints will only help me succeed in the business world. This trip opened my eyes to see life in Asia, and knowing I have been to various countries will help me in my future business endeavors.
