The LeaderShape Institute
At the end of fall semester 2015, I attended an intensive, six day retreat called The LeaderShape Institute at Camp Higher Ground with the University Honors Program.
The first days at LeaderShape consisted of learning more about how to be an effective leader: creating diverse communities where opinions can be shared, leading with integrity, establishing a network of others, and working together to solve problems. Taking the skillsets and values learned in the first days, we then applied them to create our individual vision for the future.
LeaderShape challenged me to think about the value of integrity. I've always felt that integrity is important for leaders in any position or situation. LeaderShape taught me that it's not only important, it's crucial.
For my personal vision, I want to create a program for young girls in the Cincinnati Public School system to help them realize their true potential. The girls would be paired with women in the Cincinnati business community, and would receive mentorship and support to help them feel empowered to dream big, and to achieve their dreams. It's my goal to use the connections I've established at the University of Cincinnati and in the community to kick off the program and to receive funding from friends, family, and other women across the city.
