I couldn't have asked for a better honors seminar to end my college career. During the spring semester of my senior year, I had the opportunity to take a course out of the College Conservatory of Music called Music in Vienna.
Over the course of the semester, I studied various works composed by Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, and Schubert. Learning about the political and social environments in which each artist composed and performed was key in my understanding of their music.
During spring break, my class went to Vienna, Austria, the City of Music. Many famous composers, such as the ones we studied in class, lived in Vienna at some point in their lives. While in Vienna, we visited the residences of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. It was interesting to see how each composer was portrayed - by the paintings on the walls, the furniture on display, and the guided tours detailing facts and figures about each composer.

Upon our arrival in Vienna, we set off to see the city to take in all the sights. The group traveled to Eisenstadt to see the Esterhazy Palace and Haydn's church, the Austrian National Library in the Hofburg Palace, the Schonbrunn Palace, the State Opera, and Forchtenstein Castle. We also attended a production of the Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute, at the Volksoper Theater.
Below you will find two assignments I completed for class: an analysis of the libretto for The Marriage of Figaro and a review of a CCM concert.
