In fall semester of my freshman year, I took a course called Gateway to Honors. This course went into detail about all of the interesting academic programs offered to University Honors students. At the time, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I dove in head first and I have had a great experience so far. I can't wait to further my growth in the University Honors Program.
Gateway to University Honors: Honors 110
I was a bit apprehensive before heading to class the first day. I had no clue what Gateway to University Honors would be about, and I knew I had a different professor than all of my college friends. While the first couple of weeks were basic introductory classes, I thoroughly enjoyed the class once we got started into the more interesting material. Learning all about e-portfolios was an interesting class, but I did like how we progressively added material to our portfolios, one piece at a time. This made it much easier, and the feedback from my classmates was also very helpful. While I dreaded the class for some time, I have found it was actually very worthwhile. An online portfolio and resume are something that I will use in the near future, and without this class, I wouldn’t have known they existed.
In class, we had to research e-portfolios. I decided to look at the history, advantages, limitations, and uses in college and the professional world. I found this to be an important part of the class because it was the start of e-portfolios. I realized the importance of having an e-portfolio and keeping it up to date. The e-portfolio will help enhance my hard-copy resume that I will soon be giving to companies.
During class we designed our own experiential learning project. I am working with the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati on a project called Winners Walk Tall. I am taking this community service project and turning it into a leadership honors experience. I filled out an experiential learning form, and found that it was much more challenging than expected. I knew I would be given honest feedback from my classmates and professor to help guide me through the process. I was also highly encouraged to commit to this experience because it would be great!
I chose this image to represent my experience in Gateway to Honors. I was utterly confused at the start of the Mechanics of E-portfolios class. I was frustrated because the idea of an online portfolio was very strange to me. I worked hard on my e-portfolio and read through the paket provided to help myself improve. I feel like I have grown accustom to this website and that I have almost mastered it. Currently, all of my projects in my e-portfolio are from Gateway to Honors, and it is a nice tool to look back and reminisce on the class.

At the beginning of the semester, we were given the task of writing a short document about ourselves, our family, and our hopes and dreams for our college experience.

To document our experiences, all University Honors students have to use an online platform. In the past, everyone used iWebfolio, but recently many people have switched to a different portfolio platform. We had to research iWebfolio to see how they were used and techniques to create them.

This is my rough draft of my Winners Walk Tall proposal. We were given feedback from upperclassmen, and I edited a few things before submitting it to my Honors advisor for the experience credit.
