Character-Based Leadership was a course taught by Bill Bagley, a human resources professional at Barnes Dennig. The coursework was focused on learning how to become a strategic partner in a firm by applying servant leadership principles. We learned about the importance of mentoring, connecting, and championing co-workers and inferiors. We also discussed the importance of networking, personal credibility, oral and written communication skills, self-actualization, and consultative skills. One of the course requirements was to give a group presentation and provide feedback to classmates. This course was important to my learning because I gained critical skills that I will apply as I move up the corporate ladder. I also became more comfortable with assembling presentations and speaking in front of peers and superiors. I was able to network with Cincinnati business men and women to discuss potential career paths. This course was extremely beneficial and greatly increased my professional business knowledge.
I chose this image to represent what I learned in Character-Based Leadership because networking is essential to being successful in the business world. Most people have 300 people in their network, so 300 people in my network x 300 people in a connection’s network = 90,000 people I can be connected with in a single phone call.

Over the course of the semester, we had to give three group presentations, gradually enhancing our skills and presentation techniques. My group was composed of three Cincinnati Westsiders and we each spoke on a topic that was unique about living on the Westside of Cincinnati.
